About the stipend

The Eliteforsk travel stipend is given to the brightest and most talented of the PhD Students currently working at Danish research institutions. It consists of DKK 300.000 which are meant to make it possible to study abroad.

DTU Fotonik’s PhD Student Pernille Klarskov Pedersen has been awarded the Eliteforsk Travel Stipend given by the Danish Ministry of Education and Research.

Pernille Klarskov Pedersen works with Terahertz light in the Terahertz Science & Technology group which is led by Professor Peter Uhd Jepsen. Her PhD project focuses on building a platform with particularly intense terahertz light sources for non-linear spectroscopy which is able to examine the lowest vibrations in molecular systems. The details in the conversion from sunlight to a biological function by biological aggregators are still surrounded by mystery. The non-linear spectroscopy platform will be able to shed some light on such issues.

"I and the whole THz Science and Technology group are very excited and proud of the Eliteforsk Travel Award that Pernille Klarskov has received from the Danish Council for Independent Research. Pernille has already shown a very significant potential and talent in research, and works dedicated, hard and determined towards her goals. This prestigious award will help to further pave the way for her future career in science."
Professor Peter Uhd Jepsen

The stipend will make it possible for Pernille to spend 4-6 months researching at Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. The Institute of Optics is one of the leading research institutions within optics and houses a large number of the pioneers of optics.

“It’s a unique opportunity for me to be able to go and work in Rochester. The money will also make it possible for me to attend several international conferences.” Pernille says.
