Optics and photonics have considerable influence on our everyday life and community. Today photonics is used everywhere, for example in fiber-optic communications systems, in diagnostic equipment at hospitals, and in advanced measurement equipment.
An integrated part of our research
Education of PhD students plays a central role in the activities at DTU Fotonik and PhD projects are fully integrated in our research areas. As PhD student you have access to well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories, and because projects are often carried out as part of larger research collaborations, you have access to additional resources and the most advanced technology and equipment. Currently, Fotonik employs 220 staff members and around 90 PhD students in the different research groups at our department.
Collaboration with industry and academia
DTU Fotonik has a global network of contacts in other research organizations and companies within our field, for example via EU research programs. PhD students have every opportunity to take part in these collaborations and benefit from shorter or longer research stays abroad. Such stays can be in supplement to conferences or workshops in which the PhD student is expected to take part.
