DTU Fotonik, the Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark, is seeking a candidate for a two-year postdoc position in the field of biophotonic imaging and interferometric detection schemes for optoacoustic imaging. We offer an interesting and challenging position embedded in an international environment. The position is part of the EU H2020 grant “Hybrid optical and optoacoustic endoscope for esophageal tracking” (ESOTRAC).

Responsibilities and tasks
The position is aimed at expanding our competences in the field of biomedical imaging modalities and applications, with a specific focus on optoacoustic imaging. Our main task is the investigation of novel concepts based on interferometry for detection of the acoustic waves. In addition, integration of such optical systems into probe heads for endoscopy is subject for investigation. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with researchers in the international collaborative project. Thus, preference will be given to candidates that can strengthen the following areas:

  • optical design of micro-optic systems,
  • interferometry,
  • optoacoustic imaging or relevant biophotonic imaging modalities,
  • strong experimental skills,
  • strong communication skills as collaboration with international research groups is an integral part.

The successful candidate has a PhD degree in experimental physics or photonics, expertise in the field of interferometry and micro-optics, and expertise in/or knowledge of biophotonics and biomedical imaging.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to 

  • scientific production and research potential at international level,
  • strong experimental skills and good theoretical skills,
  • innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas, and
  • the ability to communicate at all levels.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.
