New Diode Laser Systems
The research area includes research, development and education in diode laser systems for both medical and industrial purposes. We carry out fundamental studies as well as applied research where new industrial lasers are constructed. We are currently developing new and improved diode laser systems for medical applications, materials processing, biotechnology and optical sensing. Through international (Brighter – www.ist-brighter.eu) and national research collaborations with institutes and companies we develop external cavity diode laser systems for i.e. diagnostics/treatment of cancer, laser displays, industrial tests, and fundamental studies of semiconductor amplifiers.
An important research area is the development of new high-power, tunable diode lasers with high spatial and temporal coherence and the application of these new lasers in second harmonic generation.
Nonlinear optics is another important research field in our group. The field covering the dynamics of optical materials is concentrated on inorganic materials. The efforts are mainly within photorefractives and semiconductors in which nonlinear effects such as parametric oscillation and amplification, optical phase conjugation and four-wave mixing are studied.
