DTU Fotonik’s laser technology (LIDAR) helps optimize the efficiency of wind turbines
The technology is called LIDAR and is invented and patented by researchers at DTU Fotonik and subsequently transferred to the startup company Windar Photonics. Armed with SEED Capital, Windar Photonics has hired the experienced top leader Martin Rambusch to ensure that the potential of the technology is fully realized.
The Lidar is a sensor which is able to measure the speed and direction of the wind at a distance up to 100 meters in front of the wind turbine. The sensor allows the turbine to optimize its position relative to the wind. This improves the turbine’s output while also reducing wear and tear.
